In a seismic announcement for hardcore and post-hardcore enthusiasts, the revered bands Shelter and CIV are making a roaring comeback to the stage after a considerable hiatus. Brace yourselves, as these New York legends are gearing up for a series of explosive shows across the Northeast this spring.
The tour kicks off with an adrenaline-charged performance in Hamden, CT at Space Ballroom on April 4, featuring Almighty Watching and Clearbody. The frenzy continues with a stop in Philly at Broken Goblet on April 5, promising special guests that are yet to be revealed. Pawtucket, RI's The Met will witness the hardcore mayhem on April 6, showcasing COA, Anklebiter, Attrition Rate, and What Counts. Finally, the grand finale unfolds in NYC at Bowery Ballroom on April 7, with Rule Them All and more surprises waiting in the wings. Tickets for this hardcore extravaganza go on sale Friday, January 12, at 10 AM.
For those unfamiliar with Shelter's illustrious history, it's worth noting that Ray Cappo and Porcell have been keeping busy with their original band, Youth of Today, who are also slated for some shows this year. On the other side of the spectrum, CIV, after a prolonged hiatus, is rejoining forces with Anthony "CIV" Civarelli, Arthur Smilios, and Charlie Garriga, all of whom have been deeply immersed in the punk scene, particularly with Gorilla Biscuits, set to perform at this year's Punk Rock Bowling.
Intriguingly, Ray, Porcell, and CIV's songwriter, also a Gorilla Biscuits member, Walter Schreifels, were recently featured in the Glassjaw 30th-anniversary book curated by BrooklynVegan and Revolver. This commemorative piece, available for purchase alongside the band's new vinyl reissues in the BV shop, provides an intimate look into the history of these hardcore icons.
Not to be outdone, CIV is stepping into the spotlight with a new book chronicling his time as a roadie for Youth of Today. As the hardcore revival gains momentum, these influential figures are poised to reignite the passion and energy that defines the very essence of punk culture.
Tickets for these shows are set to disappear faster than a punk song outro, so mark your calendars and secure your spot in the pit. It's time to witness history in the making!
