Toronto's beloved punks, Pkew Pkew Pkew, are gearing up for a raucous return with their upcoming album, 'Siiick Days,' slated for release on September 22 via Stomp Records. The record, produced by Pete Steinkopf of The Bouncing Souls, was whipped up in a brisk ten-day whirlwind in Asbury Park amidst the pandemic's chaos.
Steinkopf himself praised the band, saying, "Honest, great and clever people making honest, great and clever music." Craig Finn of The Hold Steady, who lent his guidance on the band's previous album 'Open Bar,' also contributed to this one as a "lyrical consultant," lauding Pkew Pkew Pkew for their poignant take on the nuances of modern life.
The album's lead single, "The Dumbest Thing I Ever Done," narrates bassist Mike Warne's heart-wrenching plight of selling his PlayStation post their 2020 European tour. In a world tipping towards lockdowns, the absence of video games meant a glaring absence of joy, as Warne lamented, "no video games = no fun."
Their video for the single encapsulates Warne's imagination, toying with the idea of a homemade time machine that could reverse his lamentable decision, adding a whimsical touch to the band's infectious energy.
Having signed with Stomp Records just this week, the band continues to carve their niche in the punk landscape, delivering anthems that echo the struggles and joys of contemporary existence.
Anticipate the arrival of 'Siiick Days' on September 22 and dive into the rollicking tunes that capture the essence of Pkew Pkew Pkew's unapologetic and relatable spirit.
