First Taste: Family Dinner Serves Up ‘Helianthus’ Ahead of Debut Album Release

Family Dinner, the trailblazing rockers from New York, just served up the first taste of their upcoming debut album, God Looks Out For Fools, with the release of their new single, “Helianthus.” Set to officially drop on August 16 via Other People Records, this album is already stirring the punk and grunge scenes with its provocative and poignant vibes.

“Helianthus” is a statement. Inspired by a touching yet tumultuous real-world event during the Ukrainian conflict, the track features vocalist Natalie O’Keeffe channeling the defiance and spirit of an elderly woman who confronted soldiers with nothing but sunflower seeds in her hands. This powerful narrative is woven into the fabric of the song, making “Helianthus” resonate as a symbol of resilience and rebellion.

Directed by Anthony Altamura, the music video for “Helianthus” enhances this narrative, pairing the band’s gritty, shoegaze-y sound with visuals that are as compelling as the story behind the song. As the lead single, “Helianthus” sets a high bar for the rest of the album, which promises to explore a spectrum of emotions through a blend of punchy alt-rock and introspective grunge.
