The line for the rollercoaster starts here! Drug Church, the Albany-based titans of post-hardcore rock, have announced they’re on their way back with their fifth studio album, "PRUDE," set to detonate the airwaves on October 4th, courtesy of Pure Noise Records. Known for their electrifying blend of hardcore punk and alt-rock, Drug Church continues to deliver raw, unapologetic soundscapes that have carved a unique niche in the hardcore.
Since their inception, Drug Church has stood out for their ability to weave aggressive, hook-laden guitar work with introspective and often sardonic lyrics. "PRUDE" promises to be no exception. This album emerges after the widely acclaimed 2022 release, "Hygiene," and it is clear the band has not lost their touch in creating music that both challenges and captivates.
Frontman Patrick Kindlon, who has consistently guided the thematic compass of the band, explains that while "PRUDE" might tread familiar thematic grounds—like the critique of community norms and the celebration of rugged individualism—it does so with a fresh, earnest tone. The album's lyrics navigate personal and societal complexities, steering clear of clichés and embracing a raw, narrative approach.
The album, produced by longtime collaborator Jon Markson, will explode out with ten tracks in a concise 28 minutes. It features their 2023 hit single "Myopic," and the newly dropped "Demolition Man," a track that exemplifies Drug Church's signature style with its blend of forceful riffs and reflective lyrics. Kindlon shares that "Demolition Man" explores the envy of animal instinctual clarity versus human existential meandering—a theme both poignant and relatable, wrapped in the band's dynamic energy.
Accompanying the release of "Demolition Man" is a compelling music video directed by Alex Backes, featuring a cameo by the versatile actor Biff Wiff, known from "I Think You Should Leave" and "Everything Everywhere All At Once." The video adds a visual layer to the song's introspective angst, making it a must-watch. Check it out below and preorder “PRUDE” here.
