Annabel Resurfaces with Worldviews: A Prolific Return to Emo Roots

In a surprising twist of sonic resurrection, Ohio emo veterans Annabel announced their long-awaited return with "Worldviews," slated for release on June 14 via Tiny Engines. The band, which faced the challenges of burnout, lineup changes, and the inevitability of time, brings a refreshed sound and renewed energy to their first album in almost a decade.

Lead single "Defense Mechanism" is a triumphant anthem with a massive, melodic guitar attack, marking Annabel's comeback with a powerful chorus. Directed and edited by Ben Hendricks himself, the accompanying video showcases the band in football gear, a nod to the age-old adage that defense wins championships.

"We Are Where We Are" and "All Time" offer glimpses into the thematic depth of "Worldviews." Will the album explore the intricacies of navigating through a changed world? With currently released lyrics delving into modern struggles and a quest for connection, signs point to yes. Despite their hiatus, Annabel's core, brothers Ben and Andy Hendricks, proves that as long as they've got each other, we've still got Annabel.

"Worldviews" is not merely a comeback but a product of years spent gestating, akin to The Meadowlands rather than the promised Wrens LP4. The album features a perfected indie-emo sound with tracks like the jangly "Dog" and the rough-edged update, "Defense Mechanism." Annabel sounds both hungry and lively, like scrappy upstarts and seasoned veterans simultaneously.

As the album's release date of June 14, 2024 approaches, Annabel invites listeners to experience their journey through shifting worldviews, proving that some things, like their commitment to love and music, remain unchanged.
